Bahamas Hosts First National Forum on the Primary Prevention of Violence

The Ministry of Health & Wellness, in collaboration with key national and regional partners, recently hosted the first-ever National Forum on the Primary Prevention of Violence—a groundbreaking event aimed at addressing violence through a public health lens.

Held under the theme of early intervention and prevention, the forum explored how targeted strategies can reduce risk factors and promote safer communities before harm takes place.

Prime Minister Hon. Philip Davis, KC delivered powerful remarks, stating that violence is not inevitable and that real change begins with acknowledging trauma and committing to healing. Minister of Health & Wellness, Hon. Dr. Michael Darville, emphasized the importance of breaking the silence, protecting the vulnerable, and shifting focus toward preventive action.

The Green Paper on the Primary Prevention of Violence will soon be released for public review and consultation. Citizens will have the opportunity to participate in:

  • Community town halls
  • Digital discussions
  • Public feedback sessions

This initiative reflects the Ministry's commitment to creating a safer, healthier Bahamas by addressing the root causes of violence and engaging all sectors of society in long-term solutions.
